Code of Practice on Inspection and Receiving of Durians for Collecting House and Packing House

Introduction

    The Thai Agricultural Standard (TAS 9070-2023), “Good Practices for the Inspection and Receiving of Durian at Collection and Packing Houses,” has been designated as a mandatory standard by the National Bureau of Agricultural Commodity and Food Standards (ACFS) to control the quality and safety of durian throughout the processes of receiving, inspection, selection, packing, and export. The standard will take effect on 10 July 2025. Operators of collection houses, packing houses, importers, and exporters of durian are required to obtain a license and comply with the conditions of the standard through the TAS-License system, which will enhance confidence among export markets and domestic consumers.

Objective

  • In order to obtain durians that are mature in accordance with the standard requirements for the purposes of distribution, export, and import.
  • To ensure the quality of durians prior to entering the management process of the collecting house.

This agricultural standard shall not apply to

  • Inspection and receiving of durians supplied for the preparation of ready-to-eat fresh pre-cut durians in accordance with the Thai Agricultural Standard on Good Manufacturing Practices for Ready-to-Eat Fresh Pre-Cut Fruits and Vegetables (TAS 9039).
  • Inspection and receiving of durians supplied for the production of quick frozen durians in accordance with the Thai Agricultural Standard on Good Manufacturing Practices for Frozen Durian.

Persons subject to compliance with the Code of Practice on Inspection and Receiving of Durians for Collecting House and Packing House (TAS 9070-2023).

Including producers, exporters, and importers of whole fresh durian for consumption.

Stakeholders concerned with this mandatory standard

Durian growers

  • The orchard shall be certified with GAP, or
  • Records of harvesting date / full blooming date shall be available, or
  • Test results of percentage (%) of dry matter content shall be available.

Harvesting worker / harvesting team

  • Shall be trained by a durian collecting house or packing house, or
  • Government agencies or entities recognized by relevant government agencies

Collecting house/Packing house

  • Shall obtain a license as a producer, importer, or exporter from the National Bureau of Agricultural Commodity and Food Standards (ACFS) or other designated agencies.
  • Shall obtain certification of compliance with the requirements.
    • Examination of evidence on the management of production source
    • Sorting out immature durians
    • Determination of percentage (%) of dry matter content
    • Recording of durian inspection and receiving, and training
    • Durian maturity inspectors (QC) shall be trained under training programs organized by government agencies.
